NEWS ROUND-UP

Madden victory covered by the Times Union here and The Record here

Big surprise of the night, voter turnout down. Down by roughly 25%.

Charter passed.

We are not surprised by the Mayor's Race: See our October 31 analysis, More Numbers.

Not surprised by the GOP majority on the Troy City Council either. See our predictions on those races as well.

We did believe the D's would win two, not one, At-Large seats making it 5-4 Democrat. That's democracy for you.

We'll analyze the numbers later on, as last night's victory sinks in. Let's just say, a look behind the numbers shows ominous clouds gathering for the GOP in Troy.

A quick word as well. Lets be gracious to those defeated. Keep the gloating to a minimum. The Gordon and Wiltshire camps are licking their wounds this morning. They can read numbers. They know they lost. They do not need a constant reminder of that simple fact.

From The Wretched...

“Many people didn’t think that a minor party line could do anything,” said Wiltshire, pointing out that the Working Families Party line gained more votes than the Republican line. “I think people are looking for options outside the standard bearers and they have spoken.”

They did speak. They said "third place for you."

PS can you guys fire up the tape release clock and change that to the "how much money will Gordon wife get". We know you all like to talk about lawsuits. Also all you voter fraud people this is how you steal an election.

Need some cheese with that whine?

We really won because Madden is a secret Republican even though we supported Gordon and not the secret Republican who we said was a pawn of Democrat Tom Wade blah, blah, blah. The new delusional bunch. The City does not want R's. You only won the council because the voters couldn't decide which alternative they wanted. Can't you read the numbers.

Anonymous said...

I can read the number but your having a hard time reading the letters R is for republican and the ink is still wet on Maddens voter registration card. The "delusional bunch" have no winners after leaving office.... Oh wait they have Bob. We won the council by blowing smoke up Rodney's ass 2 years ago. You see this is how you take elections back. No arrest on our end. But your doing better only one this year for now. More to come. Now do us all a favor go back to hitting Harry McCasion and 911 tapes for 2 years while we take care of the mess left by Lou Peter and Dunne. Jimino is meeting with your "mayor" this morning.

Got to love the R's. Don't know when they got their ass kicked. I suppose they all voted for Madden, not Gordon. You scamps. You are funny.

7:04 Ms. Gordon can get a lawyer but what is she going to do? To obtain a money judgment there has to be a cause of action. Pray tell, what cause of action for money damages does she have?

A violation of the County Law does not create a private right of action, only equitable relief whereby she can ensure that the tape is not released. It's not invasion of privacy as that would be the appropriation of an image or likeness for commercial purposes. It's not defamation. It could be, possibly, intentional infliction of emotional distress but the defendant's would likely implead her husband as a defendant. Depositions could get ugly. Interested to know what cause of action she has.

If John Sweeney is her attorney, I suggest the Gordon's drive.

Gotta love the D's. They think they won something last night. You elected a non democrat with a sister who put him over the top. You scamps. You are funny. Rich Crist just picked all your pockets. Legally. Now back to Harry McCasion and 911 tapes. You have 2 years for this to sink in.

Anonymous said...

Hey Anasha, how did that "people's choice" bullshit work out for ya ? How did Row E do? You can't say you weren't warned. Lie down with dogs you get fleas.

Anonymous said...

True. There's no private right of action in that law. And there's no constitutional right to privacy in a 911 tape. Other states make them subject to FOIL. Sorry Gordons... you don't have a case. You can drop the political posturing now.

January 2016:

Rodney NOT mayor
Rodney NOT council president
Rodney NOT councilman
Rodney NOT Dem committeeperson.

But I hear Concord Pools is hiring.

Leave it to Harry and company to try to spin last night's thumping into a bad thing for democrats. Did you actually say good thing Carmella didn't run for mayor the dems would have lost? Allow me to add that the powers that be for the Rennsalaer county republicans could have had Carmella run for mayor but the powers that be chose Gordon instead. Also let me add that Carmella ran for mayor four years ago and got thumped pretty good. All this would have could have should have doesn't mean a fucking thing because Carmella would havelost too. Your guy got trounced, the :-) WFP line got more votes than the republican line in the race for mayor. What's that say about the state of republicans in Troy?? It says you losers are finished. But keep trying to spin your pitiful showing into something positive, no one is buying what your selling. And if you honestly believe what you just wrote I have to ask you to get some help. Delusion is ok to a, point but when you shovel this garbage and actually believe it, then it's time to get help

Madden doesn't need council approval to hire or keep anyone. Keep dreaming. Your boy got his ass kicked worse than anyone could have predicted and you've got egg all over your fat red faces this morning. Lol that suddenly Pat's a Republican now that he won. Up until yesterday you were all pissing and moaning that he was Lou part 2. Your pathetic attempt to save face is as transparent as Jimbo wearing a domestic violence pin. You suck, and that's why you lost. How'd you like THEM apples, Richie?

Gotta love the GOP Denial.

Phana24JG said...

Wow, if anyone had said Madden gets 3,020 votes, I think every objective person would assume he loses, yet it is a substantial victory. Kudos to Pat and his team. I wonder if he(or any winner) will be so happy once he gets in office and sees the fiscal realities and contract situations he has in front of him. Ironically, having the Reps in control may be the better alternative for him.

Carm is smart and not hyperpartisan, so he should be able to work with the Reps on most issues, and he should at least have a chance to grab five votes if he makes a compelling case on a given issue. If necessary, Pat can also appease the moonbat left by proposing something they like, knowing the Reps will shut it down.

I get where Demo makes the case for an "ominous clouds" for the Reps, but it is not cast in concrete. One can look at D6 and say its Dem absent Jenkins, but that is not a given. How many would have simply skipped the race? Is EVERY Jenkins vote automatically Dem? It probably did cost Dresher a seat, but there is no guarantee the lack of a WFP guarantees a Dem council, although you can make a damn good case.

If you want to see something ominous for Troy period, I do not think the turnout numbers bode well for the city. One suggestion for Mr. Madden. On day one when you get in the office and start flow-charting, you might want to have plenty of alcohol and Xanax on hand. :)

Rodney's only "victory" was to give the Council to the GOP. He and his "team" have nothing to show for all their blah, blah and spoiler factor. Not one of them won a seat and had to import people from outside Troy to work for them. Only good news is we have a two year reprieve from Rod and Kenny's egos.

Anonymous said...

We know it won't be based on county law as we explained that to you potty mouth. We were just theorizing as to what cause of action it may be. How have the Gordon's been damaged by release of the tape? Monetarily, that is. I suppose they could sue the City for negligence but since it is a crime to copy the tape that could very well shield the city. Again, no damages.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, not seeing a freight train coming. Maybe a moped.

Phana24JG said...

What next for Team Troy? Do they regroup and try again in 2017, or do we see mass migration from WFP to Dem for the next primary season? We know Ken Z will be back. Does Rodney join him? Does Anasha go more mainstream or stay home ideologically? How do they politely tell Anastasia to go away?

Anonymous said...

Team Troy is finished. Rodney and his clown car should go to Albany. The WFP wil be endorsing Democrats in 2 years not these nitwits. You so realize the WFP can be taken over right? I do know how to do it and Jim Welch and Dara Couch better get themselves ready to find something else to do. The Independence party also won't just go to the Republicans in 2 years.Notice the one Dem at large who had the I line won? With the I line the dems can knock out the Repubs easily especially in the districts. Again note the one winner city wide is in the I party..Stay tuned tools it is coming.

Phana24JG said...

3.35 Yeah, that's the avenue we expect, but you guys have underestimated these guys from Day One. If, and it's a big if, Rodney can play long-term, it will not be as easy as you think. You should have lost Kopka, and you came within a few dozen votes of losing Madden. If the neighborhoods continue to decline, you may find loyal numbers a little harder to come by. Granted, you have a lot more patronage than other parties and will always have foot soldiers, but if the electorate continues to get discouraged, the soldiers may not be enough.

Anonymous said...

Let not forget there is no more 3 at large anymore with the new charter. The next election there is only one city wide. Also what are you people going to do when the republicans are successful ? You people are great there's a 6-3 majority and could go to 7-2 but it's not a great night for the republicans. Dunne is done you can spin it any way you want but he's out.

*eyeroll* said...

Pray tell, please enlighten us on what the cause of action will be. The "fuckwads" here who know the law are breathlessly waiting. We bow to your greater skill and advanced vocabulary.

Team Troy collapsed like a Rodney- constructed pool.

January 1 2016, Gary will still be walking around Troy footloose and fancy free. Where will your boy Jimbo be? Won't be City Hall. Probably living out of a Pampers box on 2nd Ave after he gets kicked out of the house.

say hello the the grown ups said...

Enough of the Republican versus Democrat partisan bickering. Madden and Montello had lunch today to talk about how they can work together. If they can sit down and break bread I would hope that the extremists on this blog could stop shitting all over each other and think past your petty divides and try to see what will be good for Troy. If we could have a Council President that will work with the Mayor and City Hall we might actually get something done. The days of Rodney sabotaging the administration for personal ambition are over. Let's see what we can actually get done in the next four years, not how many political points can be scored. Good for you Patrick and Carmella!!! The adults are in the house!

Anonymous said...

@Phana, Rodney ran a good show, but he also had support from the statewide WFP and the unions which backed him (I received two mailers from them and a citywide mailer will cost $5-10k a pop, plus any foot soldiers they may have provided). Its not clear he will have the same level of support next time now that he's no longer a star on the rise.

Plus he had a decent war chest left over from his council runs which has been depleted. Most 3rd party candidates can't spend $50k and he probably won't be able to do so next time.

Anonymous said...

The Row E candidate received more votes for mayor than.the republican line! What's that tell you about The state of the republican party, it tells me they are toast!

Anonymous said...

There will be 6 republican council members on Jan.1, toast?

Anonymous said...

9:56. Bravo.

It might surprise some of you hard cores, but a lot of folks aren't particularly interested in the politics, they just want stuff to get done. When you have an ego case like Rodney mucking stuff up, that doesn't happen.

Carmella never struck me as the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, but she doesn't seem focused of dragging Troy down, either. And a lot of people voted Madden because he's not particularly political, family connections or no.

Come to think of it, his campaign was about the least political campaign I've seen. No sniping, and (frustratingly) no pushback against attacks until the very end. Just a focus on the job and what he'll do when he takes office. Imagine that, Rodney— campaigning in order to actually work, instead of for glory and a paycheck.

Real Dem said...

It tells the rest of us thinking people that the Democrats wouldn't have lost the majority to the Rs if you silly whiny Row E babies with your temper tantrum campaigns had gone away after the primaries, like mature adult candidates do. Go wipe your nose and get back to us when you grow up and get over yourselves. YOU are toast. Did anyone from Row E win? That's right, no they didn't. Not even close.

Amen 9:56. Now that Wiltshire and the Whiners have been sent packing, Troy has a chance to get back on track.

One of the good things about Rodney losing(among many) is Kenny won't be Deputy Mayor as planned

Phana24JG said...

11.06. Very valid points. However, Rodney does do the campaign gig and social media bit quite well, and can still pull numbers. I just wonder how dedicated he is to the cause. We shall see. I thought Anasha came out of the race looking reasonably well. Obviously, he needs to refine his style a bit, but he has a flair for this stuff, and if he can focus on local issues and tone down some of the whacko-left green stuff, he may have some options in the near future.

They are fucking delusional, the sad part is i think they actually believe this horseshit they are trying to spin! They have yet to figure out that we see right through them and realize whistling snakes they are. 5 or 6 years ago the city hall gang had the record and Franco bought and paid for, and bombarded us with the weekly republican newsletter where negative stories were squashed, and the few positive stories were blown up or embellished by Franco. But we figured it all out, and they haven't won.shot since!

Anonymous said...

@6:08 who's delusional? We have the Manorys crowd who Wade deemed the "delusional bunch". We have Rodney, Ken, Anasha and Anastasia and they have out 'delusioned' the original delusional bunch. Or it could be the new republican majority about to take office? Or it could be the very angry poster who fantasizes about Franco, now that's delusional!

He'll have a tough row to hoe with the Democrats. Lie down with dogs and you gotta live with the fleas.
