TAX CAP

There is supposedly a public hearing tonight that will address a local law allowing the city to exceed the real property tax cap (proposed tax cap seen at left). We have not seen the notice and it is not currently on the agenda. Local legislation is necessary to exceed the tax cap and the final budget vote is scheduled for tomorrow night.

Councilman Ken Zalewski (D-5) has stated he will not vote to exceed the tax cap. The four-term councilman has taken the position that only the New York State Comptroller can manage Troy's budget. We're not convinced he's wrong.

Councilman Bob Doherty has stated that he will not vote to exceed the real property tax cap until the final tax in crease number is known. That number is hard to pinpoint because only four council members were willing to meet with the Mayor yesterday: Kopka, Sullivan-Teta, Doherty and Galuski.

Council President Wiltshire and District 1 Councilman Jim Gordon do not appear to be actively participating in the process, according to one source close to The Troy Polloi. One Councilman was too busy "unfriending" people on facebook because there un-friend wasn't sufficiently supportive during the campaign.

RUMOR MILL UPDATE

Monica Kurzejeski. Looks like Monica would actually tax a pay cut if she was offered and accepted the Deputy Mayor's position. She would have to resign her position with the Farmers Market. Also, based on reports, her best chance to move up at City Hall may be the Deputy Mayor's spot.

We also heard, but cannot confirm, that Corporation Counsel Ian Silverman was told he would not be kept on in his current position. Silverman, anticipating the news, has secured other employment. This means that Kevin Glasheen may be in play for the top legal spot in the city.

This is not a knock on Silverman. A new mayor has every right to place "his/her" people in important jobs and it should not be seen as a reflection of the person replaced.

No reliable updates on any Domestigation news.

'Council President Wiltshire and District 1 Councilman Jim Gordon do not appear to be actively participating in the process'

Pathetic. Jim and Rodney didn't win their mayoral races and on Jan 1 they're gone, so now they don't give a rats ass. they're sticking their middle finger up at the city they claimed to care about so much. A professional works hard until the end. These two are childish crybabies. More proof that the Troy voters made the right choice sending them both packing.

Ian is a good man. Best of luck to him. Kevin is a good man also. Hope he is strong with union negotiation from his past at Nimo.

Bigger question is why were parks & rec guys taking measurements down at Washington Park. Could the swing sets be finally coming to South Troy????? Will the concrete truck be far behind to install the swings properly?

A very uncratus-like post today ("because there un-friend", "actually tax a pay cut").
Looks like he took the day off and gave the controls to someone who works at channel 10.

I would love to attend this hearing, but since I will be overnight in beautiful downtown Fishkill tonight, I guess FB, Twitter, and the Polloi will have to suffice.

The tax cap law vote is dead.

You think you're starting an empire without us?

Winter is coming.

I am dismayed and angry that Wiltshire, Zalewski and Gordon are bailing on their responsibilities. It is unprofessional and totally unfair to the people who voted them into Council seats. Okay, so you didn't win the race for Mayor, but to willfully screw your constituents by not showing up in your final months in office, particularly with our financial shit storm, proves that they really never cared about our city or it's future. It shows a complete lack of character and as their final act should pretty much seal the deal that they can never run for any office again.

I don't think Kevin will have to worry about negotiating union contracts. If the state takes over they will probably be taking the lead with that. I hope city workers don't anticipate seeing any raises. A lot of employees see the writing on the wall and will be leaving for better employment opportunities.

First stop the bullshit about city employee leaving for better opportunities. That never happens unless there wife also works for the city and make better money. No one leave that Cadillac insurence. I can't tell you how disappointed I am with the current democrats sticking it to your new "democratic" mayor. This group is never to return to elected employment. Disgusting. Everyone should watch very closely at Dean "the democrat" Bodner tomorrow night. He's been there for six years and is part of the problem. Watch him trust me he's NFG.

City employees? Better opportunities? Which ones?

They disavowed their party and ran as WFP. This is what Jim Welsh spawned and people will remember. It's one thing to lose an election, it's another thing to throw grenades on your way out the door to make it harder for the next guy. Troy loses big time. Rodney and Ken and Jim W karma is going to kick your ass for this,

I for one won't be leaving my city employment. I'm going to gross over 6k with my holiday, longevity and stipend / premium pay checks the first week of December.

My insurance is paid for by the city and its extremely good. I don't got cold or wet except for On a rare occasion.

I'm good, I'll hold thanks.

The only way to save money is by hiring more cops and firemen.

Pay up suckers.

@ 4:33. I guess the only one that would be applicable to are members of the PD and to a lesser extent the FD.
