MEET THE CANDIDATES NIGHT

Later this week we'll take a look at the council races.  This morning we're tired so you guys can take charge. Today, you can weigh-in on last night's Meet the Candidates Night.

Did you meet the candidates last night? We did not. The Yankees were on and we have our priorities. If you did go to the Middle School last night to meet the candidates, let us know what you think. It could not have been as good as THIS Meet the Candidates Night. Those were good times. But, maybe it was a good night with some substance.

As usual, The Record covered the event in great detail.

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY

The fuel that drives campaigns, at all levels of government. Lets see what's going on with our trio of candidates.

Patrick Madden has  $8,767.71 left in coffers. Not bad, seeing that he had to spend his way through a primary battle. That will be good for a few more mailers.

Rodney Wiltshire has  $2,2236.13 left in the account. Again, a good chunk spent battling through a primary.

Gordon  wins the bank account primary, with $14,627* on tap for the remaining few weeks.

Here's the odd thing. At least, we find it odd. Wiltshire raised roughly $11,000. He has not shown any contributions since the 32 Day pre-primary report was filed. However, his expenditures include approximately $3,000 in wages.

Back in 2007, Mayor Tutunjian had over $100,000 in his campaign account. He spent over $40,000 on television ads and $10,000 in rent for his campaign headquarters. But no employees. Should  nearly a third of what Team Troy raised have gone to wages? We thought this was a labor of love.

If a campaign wants to have employees, more power to them. It just seems a little extravagant for an insurgent campaign.

Is Team Troy out of steam? Are any more fundraisers planned? If not, it doesn't look like they'll have much left for a late inning push.

COMING UP...

An in-depth look at the individual council races.

What are the chances that Rodney takes enough votes from Madden and actually makes Gordon a viable candidate?

I am a life long (and not faction affiliated) Dem, who voted for Rodney in the primary, assuming that he would act like the true Dem that he claims to be and stand aside if and when he lost. Well he did, and then he didn't. That bothered me greatly. I went to the debate last night leaning toward Madden, and now I am firmly in his camp. Madden came across as mature, thoughtful, and serious. Wiltshire was rigidly rehearsed, and completely unable to come off of his prepared talking points, no matter what the question related to. And, at least to me, the worst part was the smug grin on Wiltshire's face coupled with the rolling of his eyes while anyone else, but particularly Madden, was speaking.
I am now deeply regretting my earlier support for Rodney and Team Troy. The only At-Large candidate who came across as viable is the big bear Anasta. Peggy thinks she is going to have something to say about union agreements? That is solely the responsibility of the Executive branch, subject to Council approval. If she doesn't know that with all of her years of Council attendance, I have to wonder if she pays any attention to anything other than her favorite issue of the day. Regular attendees know exactly what I'm am talking about here.

Gordon has a big bank account because he didn't have to Primary. Madden has a lot of support and manages his campaign responsibly. Rodney, who knows?

I could not make it, but have to take issue with 9.05. I routinely see folks bashing sitting Council members for not accepting ownership of what happens during their tenure. While Peggy will not be doing any negotiating if elected, isn't it more than fair for her to try and influence them? I get that you were referring to her behavior over time, but your example seemed off-target.

@ 905. Just out of curiosity what did Peggy have to say about her involvement in contract negotiations? The unions, as we all know, have been without contracts for 4 years. I'd love to see her ideas to settle these agreements.

Wages in Rodney's filing confirms that he had to pay candidates to join him on his "team." So much for public service and civic responsibility.

Madden showed his stuff at last night's forum. He was honest, level-headed and knew the material, answering the questions asked of him. Unlike others. Rodney was his usual soundbite, no substance self. Not what Troy needs.

Rodney got off easy last night. When he told the crowd he'd provided oversight of the last two city budgets, no one questioned how he could do that from Florida (while on vacation two years in a row)...Nor did they question exactly how he had tackled our impending fiscal crisis while Council President. Lucky Rodney may be the spoiler in this race giving us Gordon for mayor. Remember, October is Domestic Violence Month!

9:05 I wish you would write this as a letter to the. Editor. Your experience of shifting your support is important. More people than just the people who follow TP need to know this. The papers have been really lame in their coverage.

The format was to Rodney's advantage. Detailed one minute answers to complex multi-part questions are impossible and with no opportunity for anyone to respond he just played beat the clock & got in his talking points. A true debate will force him to be held more accountable for his budget "oversight(s)" and other council leadership failings.

And his notable body language? Quite indicative of a lack of maturity & respect.

Patrick Madden was the adult in the room again displaying thoughtfulness, strength, humility & a thorough understanding of where Troy is, where it needs to go & a measured collaborative approach to getting there.

Went to the debate last night. Impressed by Carmella and the Dresher guy but couldn't pick a third to vote for if I had too. The charter change will make it all easier after eliminating 2.

Why can't the Wade Dems or even team Troy come up with a viable candidate to take out Mark McGrath? Jesus, between Anastasia, Carol Channing and the biggest loser of them all the Dr. Martiniano we're stuck with this arrogant prick again.

Anonymous said...

At Large - Carmella did a nice job. I'm not a fan, but have to give her props for being confident and answering the questions thoughtfully. Same with Dresher. He has some unique experience that would be good on the Council. My third vote would be Anasha. Look beyond the hair and ill fitting suit and you will see a smart young man who obviously loves Troy. On the other end of the spectrum, what is someone who hasn't read the charter, and knows nothing about the schools or the local non-profits doing running for city council? And someone should clue Ms Hyphen that the library tax is a percentage of the library budget, not an additional percentage on our taxes. Thankfully, only one candidate was in favor of merging the school districts.

Mayor - Cox acted like the ass he is. It's all about him, his family, and how they were done wrong. Nothing about what he would do for the city. Gordon just parroted his rehearsed responses, even when they had nothing to do with the question he was asked. Wiltshire's answers were mostly OK, but the eye rolling and faces he made had him looking like a hyperactive 6th grade boy. Madden nailed it. Every question. Certainly any fence rider in the room came down on Madden's side by the end of the evening.

Martiniano the thieving ghost of city hall? Exposed by none other than VITO?

Anonymous said...

The Doctor is in the house!!!! Robert Martiniano otherwise known as the "Dr" after Vito exposed his no-show job. He famously said he was leaving the city of Troy to work on his Doctorate. This is the begging of the downfall of Tom Wade first group of Democrates now infamously known as the delusional bunch. Now Robert has come back as the author of this blog. Welcome back Robert have the scares healed? Poor Robert couldn't even win election in his own house let alone dist 2 but who can ever forget his door to door campaigning with his shiny Yankee coat. Robert thought that old women spraying him with the garden hose was a sign of affection when he would go door to door. Welcome back Dr Robert.

If he can't beat that trainwreck of a councilwoman that's there now, he should retire with his BMW and his Benze. I saw the BMW on Robert Coxs video when he illegally took down one of Rodney s signs

He was taking a break from his usual pastime, cruising in Frear Park

I think McGrath's a bottom

Yes he is

You know what pisses me off, going through the State Departments tax warrant list and seeing certain people on there. We pay or taxes for our property and businesses and some of these leeches don't. Then they get all righteous about bottom feeders and don't see themselves the same as the parasites they criticize. No, I'm not talking about Harry and Francesca. There's another welfare cheat that makes us pickup the tab for his failures.

Even businesses that are barred from State contracts for various violations. Or, businesses that are given hefty fines for OSHA violations. What a scumbag someone like that would be.

You mean this assclown?

His "business" screwed me. Lousy work product. Promised a refund and then never returned my calls.

Unsatisfied customer (just like his ex-gfs).

Guess they didn't like giving their workers safety equipment. Huh! Trying to destroy our city?

Rodney's numbers are deceiving. If you look at his expenditures someone else is bankrolling all of his printing, advertising and day to day expenses because they are not coming out of his campaign funds. His money source is the unions and the Brooklyn WFP (they sent and paid for the infamous puppet mailer). His consulting firm is from NYC. Most of his money is coming from outside of Troy.

This can't be Martinano, he has no sense of humor.

Anonymous said...

Maybe he should stop talking about tax hikes and pay his taxes. We shouldn't have to carry him.

Anonymous said...

@4:50 - i was thinking the same thing!

Anonymous said...

Yup. To sum it up, Kevin McCashion has over $30,000 in open state tax warrants dating back to 2007. Nice job Kev! Just like your GOP buddies, your a sniveling impotent little hypocrite.

Hal Chase said...

If this was Martiniano wouldn't he be advocating a draft Campana movement? Doubtful it's any Dem we know. They have no sense of humor. Only the GOP is less funny.

So McAsshat has judgments for back taxes. So funny. He used to run around with all those nutty anti-tax groups. Wonder why he was so angry when he wasn't paying his share.

First to Review

Avoid this place.
Every once in a while you have an experience that leaves an impression for life.
Kevin at Embroid Me provided just such an experience for me.
Total nightmare.
Destroyed thousands of dollars of product we brought to him.
Said he'd compensate us....months now no word, never in, won't return phone calls.

Avoid this experience. Go elsewhere.

It sure had nothing to do with his "fundraiser" no one showed, I heard they lost money

I'm sure you meant "incompetent", not impotent.

On second thought, maybe not.
