NEWS DUMP

Jim Walsh dies last week. Walsh was a long-time figure in Republican politics in Rensselaer County for years. He was a former county legislator, Chair of both the Troy and county Republican Committees as well as a State Board of Elections Official. Walsh was 76 years old.

Walsh was brought into the Tutunjian Administration early on  as a Co-Deputy Mayor in order to babysit Dan Crawley. Probably one of the better personnel moves made by Harry. Walsh ensured that Crawley had a regular supply of binks and bahs as well as making sure Crawley didn't forget nap time and get too cranky.

We liked Walsh. RIP Jim.

People complain that children are not given enough to do. That they spend too much time inside, on their electronic devices; that they do not get enough exercise. Yet, when a Troy man tries to involve children in outside activities, the law comes down on him.

A Troy man went on a December tire-slashing rampage with two children last year — slashing and puncturing 31 tires on 14 different vehicles, State Police said Tuesday.

Louis Valente, 26, is accused of the vandalism in Stephentown on Dec. 19. He is charged with nine counts of felony criminal mischief and one count of felony conspiracy for planning the damage with two children. He was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned in Sand Lake Town Court and sent to the Rensselaer County Jail on $7,500 bail and due back in court Thursday.

Troy's amnesty program for scofflaws netted about $100,000, approximately 10% of what is owed in unpaid parking tickets and fees. While this is better than nothing (and we have the math to prove it), does anyone find this disappointing? We were hoping for twice what was eventually recouped.

The parking amnesty program was never about actually generating revenue. It was about generating publicity for Carmella.

Well thank you Carmella for the $100,000 the city would have turned a blind eye to as was the case of Lou and the current Lou II.

We hear madden will balance the budget. On his head that is

Perhaps we can use the $100,000 to help defray the cost of all of the money paid out to settle Tutunjians many, many lawsuits.

The real issue is we are $100,000 better off than we were before.
Good job city council. Now let's go after the scofflaws who did not take advantage of the amnesty plan.

All praise Carmella.

I like the idea of creating a Tutunjian settlement fund. More settlements are coming.

Tutunjian lawsuits? The one that BID chairman Sam Judge has to pay the city? Or is it the the decision soon to pay criminal cops full pension benefits? Boy, Crawley should have never trusted Fitzgerald.

These stories need eventual follow up. What kind of plea deal will Abelove's office give Valente? $100,000 is good, but how much would have been collected during same period without amnesty? Also will Troy contact DMV to have the registrations of scofflaws suspended, and will it now aggressively move to collect the remaining $500,000 +?

@10:43 who's Valente? And the major question what has Madden and Monica done in 6 months? I'm starting to long for Lou and Peter Ryan.

Did you pay your tickets???

The hell with Tutunjian. What are we going to have to pay for the botched voter fraud prosecution civil lawsuits and Abelove's fuckups? In addition to what we've already paid for the utter debacle that was Sheriff Jack Mahar. How many lawsuits came out of his reign of terror?

RIP Jim, you were a great Chairman. Jim was someone you could talk to and whether or not he agreed with your line of thinking, he treated you with respect. Jim had a great sense of humor and great political instincts and was the last Chairman who commanded the respect of both city and town elements of the party, which can be a very difficult if not impossible task.

If Voter Fraud didn't happen, then Mac should be charged with perjury then -- right?

They should go after Joe Mazz pension to help solve the mess he leaves behind.

You sound like a moron. Do you think Brown did it by himself. He plead guilty which meant he was guilty and his friends were guilty also just because found not guilty does not mean they didn't do it. And you do love to show your obsession for Harry!!

No My Uncle is giving out free tickets.

My obsession for Harry? Please dont paint me with one brush, its his entire crooked gang who i dont like. Harry and Crawly were the ring leaders and Crawly is at least smart enough to hide his face in shame and humiliation, unlike Harry who is so desperate to be relevant again he continues to make an asshole out of himself. He puts the target on his own back and we happily fire away! How bout Harry goes away so none of us have to "obsess" about him anymore? Nothing more pitiful than an old punch drunk boxer mumbling about his glory days. Thats Harry. A pitiful, punch drunk club fighter who refuses to go away. So as long as he desperately tries to stay relevant, we will continue to abuse him.
