HAPPY BIRTHDAY TROY!

Troy is 200 years old! But doesn't look a day over 150.

Events kicked off at the Rensselaer County Historical Society yesterday at a cake-cutting ceremony led by Mayor Madden and County Executive Kathy Jimino. Simultaneously, golf season also kicked-off at Frear Park.

Two Hundred. People said it would never last. Time for another colonoscopy.

There are plenty of activities upcoming in the next week or two.

Friday saw the official disrobing of the Colonel Pawling Statute, Troy's first mayor, at the former and historic site of Collins Market. It was also announced that funds are currently being raised for a statute of Troy's first City Manager.

Troy people are the best. We stick together even when there be haters.
Like they say.." You just jealous" (Troy is home for us families that live here 50 years now seeing the grandkids living hear. We ain't leaving.this is our city.

Just as a point of interest, 1989 was the bicentennial of the formation of the Village of Troy. This year is the bicentennial of Troy becoming a city under NY law. Less than 27 years to move from village to city is pretty impressive, and speaks volumes about the entrepreneurial spirit and opportunities that Troy had at that time. Many of us believe that both of those are returning.
Do you want to help? STOP bad-mouthing Troy. SAY at least one positive thing every day, especially if it contradicts someone's ill informed statement. MAKE a conscious effort to do something positive every single week.

Troy is unique, with many buildings still standing from the 1800s,Troy has a nice park on the river downtown next to dinosaur many excellent restaurants and a kick ass police department. True, it has deteriorated terribly over the last 15 years, but there is still plenty of good people and good things to see in Troy. It's the only hometown I'll ever have and I love Troy

If you love Troy so much, why not do something to make it better? Your community service is legendary.
