BORING NEWS

Election season is fun. Just plain fun. Lots of news, lots of statements to critique, lots of dirty politics. Now, it's the refractory period. Dull stories about a crew of public officials that likely don't really have any more of an idea of governing than the average citizen. Sometimes less.

So, we don't know where we will go with this blog. We may:

1) Fold up until the next election;

2) Hit only news we think is important;

3) Post news items and allow the readers to comment and discuss.

Frankly, we are tempted to choose 2 and 3 if that's what you'd like.

But, right now we have such great news as:

In a shocker, Rensselaer County Republicans endorse State Senator Kathy Marchione for re-election. Marchione, representing the State's 43rd senate district, was at her hair stylist getting an estimate and could not be reached for comment.

Rensselaer County District attorney Joel Abelove moved to dismiss 1st degree rape charges against Andre McClenos. Mr. McClenos is not, is not, a Rensselaer County legislator.

Last week, the video depicting the shooting of Thaddias Faison was released. The video showed that our police officers acted appropriately, professionally and bravely. Again, no big surprise.

Finally, rumor has it that former Council President and mayoral candidate Rodney Wiltshire is eyeing a return to politics. No, not a run for County Legislature, but Troy's Third Council District, currently represented by term-limited Dean Bodnar. All of this would, of course, be a run-up to a another mayoral run.

We'd welcome the run by Wiltshire. If Madden does not run for re-election, we want to see a Wiltshire - Mantello race. God, we want to see that race.

Sorry guys. It's a depressing day when our next President may be Donald Trump (bombastic demagogue), Ted Cruz (despicable), Bernie Sanders (unapologetic socialist) or Clinton (hapless). Is that the best we can do? Both sides should be ashamed of what they have wrought.

The city council has no health insurance. County leg. has full coverage, more money and less work. Rodney and Ken will run for 2 of 6 seats. Your ideal match-up of Wiltshire and Mantello will not happen.

What is despicable about Ted Cruz? He is by FAR the most intelligent candidate(well, Trump is close) and the only candidate who has read and understands the Constitution.

For Crist's sake, Joel said...

McClenos must be a Republican strategist.

Yeah Cruz understands the Constitution..Show me the part that says the President only gets to serve 3 years and cant put forth a nominee for Supreme Court because there's an election..Cruz and McConnell and the other village idiots should vote up or down on whoever Obama puts forth...Period...Discussion closed.

Nice! Presidential debating. Good for you because if you have to wait for the humps that right this shit you'll be talking about flooding basements. This blog is so dead.

The president can put forth the nominee of his choice. After his two nominations, especially the hapless Sotomayor, the Senate should exercise their right of oversight and reject another radical lefty. There is that pesky advise and consent clause.

You need to keep writing, if your not writing anything for others to laugh at and enjoy then that's a waste of a lot of talent

So with regard to this whole "read and understands" the Constitution thing...

The Constitution was written over 200 years ago by a group of wealthy, powerful white men. In the years since, the paradigm they knew has vanished. They would not recognize modern society, though Ben Franklin would probably make the adjustment just fine.

With the exception of the broadest of concepts - most of what they held dear is outdated, out of fashion and no longer tenable or practicle - like slavery or not allowing women to vote...

A reply to 7:02 AM:
The Constitution is the thread that binds the fabric of the rule of law. In the absence of the rule of law, one will inherit anarchy and a level of self interest that is protected and promoted by ruthless power. While it was written some time ago, and yes by white men who founded this country, it has served us well for over two hundred years. It provides within it a mechanic for change called the amendment process. Guard it and protect it as you would your own life, for within its pages are the safeguards that protect your personal life freedoms and liberties.

I vote for #2

Yeah 7.02, the Constitution is so outdated. Who needs those silly Bill of Rights, and I suppose we really don’t need that 14th Amendment for those trivial civil rights issues. Maybe you took audited a course years ago at the U of Chicago under some affirmative action non-tenure track Lecturer named Barry.

While the Constitution is not outdated, Rafael Cruz does not have a monopoly on how it should be interpreted. Many jurists, from all political denominations, find the idea of original intent or strict construction problematic. Some provisions and Amendments demand interpretation and that interpretation will always be colored by the era. Cruz's strained stance on religious liberty during the Kentucky clerk fiasco was embarrassing. He knows government officials performing ministerial duties must lay aside any personal objections. For instance, I would never allow females to have drivers licenses based on my own faith.

However, I find the whole idea of a representative democracy repugnant and still harbor hopes that we return to absolute monarchy.

Guy, I never said Cruz was perfect. However, I find him to be he best of the Republican lot. When I then compare ANY of the Reps to the utterly corrupt Mrs. Bill Clinton(and her pathetic record as SecState) and a senile old socialist with a poor education and even less useful experience than B. Hussein, it's an easy pick.
